Quickest scam call ever.

Him: Hello Mrs Noodles (yes - I think they had my name, although the line was fuzzy)...yes?

I am Alex, I am calling from the Windows section of Microsoft. I am calling because we keep getting error reports from you computer. So I am calling to see if you are sending these reports.

Me: Oh yes.

Him: Are you sending us error reports?

Me: Why yes, actually I am!

Him: *pause*

Him: Why are you sending them?

Me: It keeps crashing! All the time...

Him: *hangs up*

Apparently they work up to getting you to email them your credit card details.

I'm so surprised he gave up so quickly. Kind of disappointed, because once I'd hit on the idea of saying yes, my creative juices really started flowing.

Ew, that's skeevy.

That would have been hilarious if the conversation had been longer. I'm in awe of your brain's ability to think quickly!

That's even better than Mim's response of "Really? Oh, I'll just hand you to my husband who's a professional System Administrato-- hello?"

It's relatively new, I think mostly the last year or two. I've had a couple myself, and was too busy to string them along; I just said "I don't run Windows. Please do not call this phone number again."

I thought my first one like this was more than a couple of years ago - but it's not like I keep track.

The scammer was in for a surprise instead! :)
Hahaha! I bet the scammer was thinking you'd be surprised when he broke the news about error reports! Well, I guess you read the latest scam updates at Callercenter too, Mrs. Noodles! :P
