It's too damn hot.

My uber-fuzzy, warm blooded friend is happy tonight, because I recently read on a website that a good way to keep cats comfortable in the heat is to keep their little pointy ears damp so I've been doing just that. (Their paws and belly are also good spots, but it's a bit harder to disguise the fact that water is involved and she, like most cats, is quite clear on her fatal allergy to the stuff when applied dermally.)

The ear thing is working so well that she wants to snuggle up next to me.

Alas, a bit of water on my ears isn't enough to have me comfortable with the arrangement. I know because I'm desperate enough to try. It really is too damn hot.

~~~
On the plus side, she's eating like mad now I've got her tinned cat food - there's life in the old girl yet.
~~~

Ooh! And a parcel from ant_queen. Doing well today!

Ah, the vagaries of being on the other side of the planet - we're having unseasonably cold weather, I've given in and turned the heat on, have been refusing to leave my heated chair, and all my friends report their cats are either glued to them or a heat source.

I like a cold pack (usually a cold can of drink, but you pick) on the wrists and neck, especially over the pulse points. Does a pretty good job of dropping my temperature quickly for minimal effort. Water on the scalp can be nice too.

Glad you mentioned that - have hauled several cold packs from shed freezer to kitchen freezer and have now installed one on my person. It's going to be a long night.

Eminently sensible and doable. And for RL Friends I'd just like to mention that I'm wrapping it in a t-shirt and not a tea towel that was already on the couch.

So you are saying you are not using the same tea towel to dry dishes as to cool your neither regions - good to know!

The temperature inside and outside has just equalized....a mere 34.9.

I really want to go to bed but *whimper*

Was wondering before whether, if I put a blow-up ring cushion around my neck for buoyancy I could sleep in a cool bath.

You should try. For science.

Threaten to put water other places if she gets too snuggly!

It's barely above freezing here in Boston. You could stop by! :)

Good tip...I wonder if it works on dogs. Mine are allergic to water as well.

We are the unfortunate possessors of a cat who doesn't like to snuggle even when the temperature is barely above freezing.

That makes sense, with the cat ears. Ears are a good route for heat loss in the first place, and water would speed it up. Why didn't I ever think of that? My mom used to put water on the cats' foreheads but that would be much less useful!
