Dec. 27th, 2013

I have done the essential domestic paper tasks. This includes a vague ponder about my recent budget blowout and whether it was avoidable.

Now considering some of the more physical expressions of domesticity. These include pilling the cat, throwing in a load of laundry and having a shower.

I find myself wishing I had a car. And the capacity to drive it. This is crazy, since the overall cost of taxis, even to and from deep suburbia, is probably still less than keeping an old bomb in petrol. Not to mention the personal cost of driving. Trouble is, every single time I go out, I have to engage with a stranger...and I have to think about, and give out, money. Cash. So the expense is not separated from the usage. It's also harder (if not impossible) to use taxis for recreational purposes. You can't meander. You can't go off the beaten track.

But memo to self: you really, really don't want to drive a car...
