Oh jeebuz.

A plumber is fixing gas pipes, and as he stated that he was obliged to turn the gas off for safety reasons if he didn't fix it, I haven't gotten a second quote.

And there goes most of a month's worth of my pension. Memo to government: if you don't factor this sort of thing into pension payments, how are people to survive?

(If nothing else, sooner or later there would have been an explosion).

~~~
And he says the fixing of a busted stormwater drain in the backyard will run into the many thousands. I'll be getting more quotes. And quite possibly not fixing it, on the grounds that it's not essential to not live in a swamp.
I hope my week improves from here.
Ouch. For what it's worth, we have a line on a good electrician / plumbing company who are also quite cheap (and are very good about showing up on time for a $20 call-out fee and giving you a quote which they then stick to).
Doesn't help with the underlying problem, but might be useful for future handyman endeavours.
This place had a $50 call out fee, so on that basis alone yes please!
