Monday Check-In.

Wore hijab to the shops today. My carer asked if I wanted her to wear a hijab as well as she thought it was a very nice idea but alas, I'd already spent ten minutes wrangling my own one into place.

She is quite astonished and disheartened by the amount of vitriol people are spewing about Muslims. In particular, by people in her circle she had thought would never say such things.

I hope the sight of someone taking a stand inspires her to do likewise.

All things considered, my little corner of the world is not a bad place today. I am basking in the sense of satisfaction at having finished an essay, at having had dinner with friends last night. Today I've been out which is nice, and now being home is nice. And I'm not feeling sick like I was feeling last week.

My next hijab excursion is on Wednesday but all I do is catch a taxi to my brain-care specialist and then (probably) catch a lift home with a friend. It may get interesting if the friend in question is busy, for then it will involve a long trip home on public transport from one side of Melbourne to the other.

I am starting to get the horrible suspicion that the Scent Of Doooom that I notice lingering around this couch (whenever I myself am lingering around this couch although I rather suspect that it's here all the time) might be coming from my new fishtank, which is just to one side of it. The water's quite clean and well maintained and all, but it is nonetheless a fishtank and therefore subject to all the curious chemical changes of deep puddles of water that contain living organisms. But I really have no where else to put it.

Are you going to share a photo of yourself in the hijab?

Smelly water is no fun at all. If that's what it is, I hope its water IN the tank, and not slowly leaked out of it.

I'm also somewhat shocked at the vitriol I hear spouted about Muslims by people around me, most of whom have never met a Muslim. I saw this posted somewhere recently and wondered if people are being swayed by media reporting and think that Muslims are all like IS.

I've considered wearing a hijab, but only so that I didn't need to change out of my pjs or brush my hair before going out :-) But seriously, I can't understand why people get so riled by it - each to their own, I say.
