My busted laptop is not under warranty, alas. In fact, I'm a year over. I've been told by the people who sold it to me that it does sound like it might be a hard drive thing.

Which means I need to get myself round to the little shop nearby. Unlikely to happen this week.

And no, I'd not done any backups for a while. My bad.

But in happier news, yesterday I totally knocked myself out buying a smartphone. I could have done it online with a lot less effort but:reasons. (Namely: I was too exhausted to think sensibly about how to do it with minimum fuss).

On the plus side, I bought the phone I wanted.

It's a Galaxy Note 4S for those who are wondering. I was interested because of the handwriting recognition stuff, but didn't want to buy one until I'd seen and held one, as they are quite large.

Now I just have to wait for a microsim to arrive. Tomorrow hopefully. The Nice Young Man(TM) man at my provider tactfully suggested I don't try just cutting my current macrosim in half, not because it isn't do-able, but because if I fuck up I don't have a phone at all. So I'm sitting on my hands.

My twitching, twitching hands.

It's very shiny. And as soon as I know how to drive it safely, I can leave the house without my A3 diary and daybook. Just my phone, my Kobo, and some knitting and medications and other handy things that can't fit at the moment, it'll be great.

Now wondering about Wacom drawing tablets.

Why not get the Kobo app on the phone? I use the Kindle app on mine a lot.
And the internet too.

In fact calls are probably the thing I do least on my wonderful smartphone - which is a GalaxyS3 so not quite as spiffy as your new toy but oh I love it.

I am very much in love with e-ink, but yes I will be doing that too. Oh, and of course I'll be able to add the kindle for android app as well- handy!

I'm not surprised - my cheapy mobile does calls, it's everything else that I'm looking forward to. Better record keeping, yay! (My shrink says it will change my life).

I keep forgetting to use mine as a diary - I keep meaning to get Pete and I using our phones diaries and synching them so we don't make appointments that clash, etc.

Congratulations on the new toy! I am a Samsung smart phone girl from the start of my smart-phone-ness days. I found the Note to be too cumbersome to manage as a phone for my short and stubby fingers so have stuck with the Galaxy S series. I also use the Kindle app on mine which I love (though I have a regular kindle as well but don't always carry it).

If it's a standard SATA hard drive, the connector is the same as for desktops. Really simple to just connect it to any desktop machine and see if it's okay.
