So according to tonight's lecture, the Sphinx was not described as a sphinx, let alone The Sphinx, until about 2000 years after its construction.

And that was because it looked like the creature from Greek mythology that was around at the time (not so much as whooo-ancient-mythology but as current belief, although current belief about stuff that happened before).

So it has nothing to do with riddles. Not a thing.

You know, I had a feeling someone would ask, and I decided to just look it up the next day. And that was yesterday and I was buggered.

According to the people runnign this course, it's the Lord Of the Horizon, possibly Horus.

They had gods for the sun, at different times of the day.
