Damn. I'm absolutely buggered but I'm also having one of those spells where I just wish I had the energy to concentrate and think about and do ....all sorts of things...

I have three new books. This makes the number of books I intend to read before I buy any more to roughly ten. I really ought to learn not to buy academic texts. I'm not capable of much more than light fiction, I ought to get real on this front.

Three things that force me to laugh at myself:

1. Stuff White People Like. (And of course, being stereotyped like just another minority makes me feel more authentically human, so I like about it too).

2. Dolores from Dead Like Me

3. A line from a song that I heard the other morning that said something quite derogatory about people who buy books they never read.

Three things I need to pay attention to, but would rather not:

1. We have a new set-top box, but can't work out how to use it. The instructions are not helping.

2. The CD/DVD drive on Dave here seems to have carked. I have no idea how to go about getting a laptop repaired. It seems there's a helpline I can ring first, but that this might involve wiping all my data, so I should back up first. Um, yes...been a while since I've done that actually.

3. There's a thing on soon that we'd go to except Eldest Brother has already got first dibs on that day, and I need to find out if this is still the case, then RSVP one way or another to the person concerned. Which I said I'd do on Tuesday. Yikes. I've just been too brain dead and then tonight I completely forgot. Grovelling will be called for.

Three things I'd like to pay attention to:

1. The book that arrived from Readings about Vermeer. And several hundred other books that litter the house.

2. High school level science. I only just got to the periodic table before I went off in other directions. Sometimes I greatly regret this.

3. The new techno-toys that have recently made their way into the Noodlebear house.

And about a million other things.

Three physical things:

1. I'm buggered, absolutely buggered.

2. I'm dusting off my CPAP machine and giving it a go tonight.

3. My feet smell! Eww!

watching the postbox like a watching thing on steroids
"Even when reading is impossible, the presence of books acquired produces such an ecstasy that the buying of more books than one can read is nothing less than the soul reaching towards infinity... we cherish books even if unread, their mere presence exudes comfort, their ready access, reassurance."

new toys? share? what are they?

why are yo smelling your feet girl?

Dave must be getting on in years now, yes?

Got the card, thankyou!

The smelling of the feet was neither intentional - nor optional - alas!

I got Dave in 2003 or 2004 I think. So I suppose for a pooter he's getting on a bit. They were virtually giving this model away within 12 months of purchase, although I don't feel much need to upgrade so long as the bits don't break. He's been able to do everything I've wanted him to do.

The new toys:
I got a new digicam for my birthday some weeks ago. However, my brain's not been in the right spot for playing with it and getting familiar, so I've not said anything about it yet.

And the latest lot of totally frivolous things:
-an HD set top box, which rather embarrassingly, I can't work yet. Tomorrow I ring the helpline.
-A USB turntable! Yes! Still in the box.
-A drawing tablet. Probably the most frivolous thing of all, especially since I like drawing precisely because it is so low tech. Impulse buy that I feel a bit stupid about, especially since we went out to get the USb turntable on purpose, and bought this on impulse, and it cost more. And we're supposed to be economising and stuff.

To slow me down further, Dave's DVD drive packing up meant it seemed silly to jump into those last two items if he was about to go to computer hospital.

Fortunately, after getting Dave sorted today, I've been a bit of a techno-noodle. Took photos of the smiley face in the sky tonight, and also had a play on the drawing tablet and installed all its software. Am about to tackle the USB turntable.

And then I'm not buying anything techish for a really, really long time.

Apart from a sewing machine, which doesn't really count, does it? Surely every house needs a sewing machine?

A working sewing machine. Both mine and Pete's mum's machine aint working, and its pissing me off. Didn't realise how often I use my machine until it became a naughty machine

all your techno purchase are drool worthy.

If your feet smell.
And your nose runs.
Then you're standing on your head.
