Talking about the weather again, again.

The weather reports always seem to say that there may be a shower or two in a couple of days.

Today I mentioned to a receptionist how much I miss rain. It transpires she does too. She launched into a vivid description of typical Melbourne weather: heatwave followed by a massive cool change and downpour. She in particular misses the sense of anticipation in the hours beforehand and we agree that the smell of hot, wet ashpalt is a beautiful, beautiful thing.

Oh yes, I love those too.

I sometimes imagine that I hear heavy rain on my roof, on my car or feel it on my back. It comes to me unbidden as the dry clouds pass overhead, like the wistful echo of rain that might have been.

I have a faint hope that this prolonged drought is not here to stay. I know that the climate is changing, but I can still wish and hope for a reprieve; if this is an initial fluctuation on the big climate graph, perhaps it will fluctuate back soon and be wetter for another decade or so before someone flicks the switch to "dry" again? I can hope, I can dream...

I thought it was raining today but I think I was dreaming. I miss it so much too. I love going outside when it just starts pouring and you can feel the cool change, S thinks I'm a bit crazy because I get drenched but I feel so connected with the world and it makes me feel happy and even gives me a bit of energy.

Oh yeah. The humidity level suddenly changes and raindrops the size of a child's fist start hitting leaves and concrete. There's always the few leaders makign the *pfladap dap bapadapph* noise giving you just time to retreat inside before the heavens open and suddenly you can smell *everything*. Hot asphalt and earth and that distinctive smell old wooden fences get when that've been baking for days and then suddenly made wet.

*has a childhood memory moment*
