I am very proud of myself because I just put in a book request to my local library rather than purchase it myself.

It's for a crochet book.

When I gave the librarian my membership number she said "oh you're the knitting woman!"

And then she thanked me because she's a keen knitter and last year I requested they purchase a bunch of knitting books which she heartily enjoyed after I returned them.

Public libraries are a fine and wonderful thing. Nice to know I've spread the knitting love.

absolutely. We're on first name basis with all the librarians at our branch, and they check what we're reading to put in their to read lists. Public service at its best.

It's like a virus... but in a good way!

If I like a book I tend to want to own them too. I go through cycles...

For the last week and a half since I've been miserable with my chest I haven't gone near my knitting. But I am in the process of making my own pattern for a blanket for Sebastian. I will also have to work out scale and suchforth, but it's there...

Oh how nice!

My local is the main library, which is sort of bad because they don't like to order books as they're a bit full up. And before that my branch library was under construction/closed for the two years I lived near it. I am not having good luck with libraries here.

Well done! It's nice to get that kind of feedback.
I don't use my local one nearly often enough.I am often disappointed that my library doesn't have what I'm after, then I go off the library for a while. I hadn't thought of suggesting they buy it. I will keep that in mind in the future.

Oh you definitely should - they love requests. They're there for their members after all.

The policy at my library is that if something is more than about 18 months since publication, they'll only get it in if it's a particularly special work. A definitive history, a classic bit of literature, that sort of thing. Also of course, if it's available on inter-library loan they might not do it either.
