It made me sleepy. (True!)
We really only tried two mattresses: a firm inner spring (but pocket inner spring) with a latex cover and a latex/memory foam combination which I really liked but which Choice warns can get uncomfortable after a while.
It's also over twice the price of the first one. 10B liked the first one best, but would cope okay with the second one.
It did feel like it had better back support.
The salesguy was talking down the cheaper latex/memory foam ones you can get at the many 'direct to public' stores, as one would expect. But he might be telling the truth.
I'm curious: what have other people found who've recently bought a mattress, re price and quality?
Particularly curious about latex/memory foam ones.
I'm now wondering if we should get the cheaper one, and I should just buy an extra top layer for my side of the bed.

Try more before buying, but a good mattress is a good investment for everyone.
but, i have heard great things about them. the teperpedic ones are the gold standard here, and i have a few friends who have ones that are nearing 5, 7 and 10 years old and going strong. i hear there are latex-free foam ones around, but the coating contains latex, and there is no way to get one without the latex coating, so i am destined to sit and wish i could have one and stick to my inner spring mattresses and replace them ever 4-6 years.
Do you know his site, wormspit.com?
Woke at midday - tachycardia (below 100) and disorientated.
Supposed to be getting into taxi for Dr right now. Cancelled instead. Not willing to start walking around - might fall over.
Why do I have to sleep til midday when I'm normally up at 5 or 6??
I looked at the cheap "direct to public" mattresses and wouldn't buy any of them. They were not comfortable and the quality difference was readily apparent. You don't buy a mattress that often - get the very best that you can afford.
