Nope, nothing to say.

Just seems a little odd not to stick my face in.

So what's with that Mark Latham guy, hey? I think he has Issues(TM).

~~

And is it my imagination, or did an immigration crisis suddenly appear out of thin air? The racism is mindboggling. No one's even bothering to pretend that they're not conflating a whole bunch of separate issues because let's face it, the racist vote couldn't care less whether they do or don't. Bah.

This has to be one of the most cynical election campaigns I've seen.

We had a friend for tea, it was nice.

I was just thinking yesterday that it really did seem to reappear out of thin air.
Also the complete anti-feminism. I am actually shocked by it.

I must remember to ask my friend D about any immigration crisis. She works giving visas to the immigrants, and is quite senior.
She was working on Christmas Island in 6 weeks stints - apparently the conditions there are just terrible - but stopped doing it not only because of the time away from her husband, but because she couldn't bear it any longer. Even the huge pay check didn't help.

SHe worked before that investigating restaurants etc for illegal workers - again, people working stupidly long shifts, sleeping in the kitchen or piled into a tiny flat, and unaware of their rights.

She's the visitor assigned to me by Wesley Do Care, and I'm proud to know her. The job does affect her emotionally, but she has wonderful people skills and is great at her job. I'm really glad that it's someone like her making visa decisions, and hope there are lots in the job that are like her.

I'm annoyed that both Big Parties have accepted the premise that LOTS of people are arriving via boat, and that this somehow represents a threat. Facts? Never let them get in the way of a good scare campaign.
I'm voting Green.

I think the Liberals bless the day the Tampa appeared on the horizon. They won the election using The Fear.

Howard tried it with the Aboriginal children but it failed dismally. Now they have, what maybe three boats? and The Fear does return...
