Heart Rate Monitoring.

Lying in bed, dozing: ~84-86 bpm.
Now(semi reclined on couch with laptop): 89-95.
Conversation takes it up to over 96bpm.

Moving quietly around around the house: 100-110 bpm.

Link to page on heart rate monitors and CFS.

If I were healthy, my maximum heart rate would be 220 - 44(my age) = 176bpm

Anerobic threshold: 60% x 176 = 105.6 bpm

I still have to work out what is right for me. The heart rate that does not trigger off post-exertional malaise.

I'll start by setting the alarm for 104 bpm.

Link to heart rate zones that has nothing to do with CFS
According to this set of calculations:
Max heart rate = ~186.5
But I'd need to actually test this out with more excercise than I could comfortably do, then add 40bpm to my score as I'm in poor shape (ie-haven't excercised for over two months). So let's stick with 186.5

And apparently, working to 50-60% of this number is good for a healthy heart. Makes you healthier but not fitter, lowers cholesterol. Does not increase stamina.

It is gained by brisk walking.

This would have me at between 93.25 and 112bpm. Which means I'm excercising even as we speak. Hurrah. I totally don't understand why I have high cholesterol.

Oh and also:

Subjectively, today was a rough day. I woke up feeling knackered, too zonked to do toast (too complicated). I went out to a medical appointment yesterday. My CD is quite bad. Today the home help came so where I probably should have just stayed on the couch I felt inspired to do a few things as well. Apart from a brief experiment with it just before I got up, I didn't actually put the monitor on until the end of her visit. So I started the day knowing things were bad (and knowing some of the reasons why) and then did push the envelope a bit.

A few years ago we bought some HR monitors for students to use for experiments. I decided to test one while in a staff meeting- I had to turn it off because as the meeting progressed my HR got higher and higher as I got crankier!

p.s. did your parcel arrive yet?

It arrived today, hurrah!

Hoodie is being worn in even as we speak. (It's been a mite on the cool side today)

Sounds like you need a day or two 'allowing yourself' to be in bed!

No wonder conversation can be so tiring!

My very old friend Scott, who I went to ADFA with, is coming over....total surprise visit since he was unexpectedly in Melbourne, and it's already after 8.30pm. I haven't had a night visitor in years!

(I didn't read his mail til 30 mins ago, and he's going home tomorrow)

22 years. Wow.
